Mid West netball, first semi final: August 20REPORTS

Mid West first semi final held at Wudinna.

A grade:Western Districts (57) defeated Elliston (38)

The first quarter began with even play. Tight defence by both teams made accurate passes a must. Western Districts capitalised on some loose balls and ended the quarter up 11 goals to14.

Second quarter Districts took quite a lead and goalies shot very well. Elliston had to really fight to get it back. They started to fight back but it was too late in the quarter.

Third quarter Districts kept the pressure on all the way down the court to increase their lead. Elliston fought back in the last half of the quarter to make the score 31 goals to40.

Districts dominated in the last quarter and convincingly won the match.

B grade:Wirrulla (68) defeated Western Districts (39)

Both teams started scrappy but then Wirrulla found momentum in to the goal ring leading 13 to six.

Second quarter both teams made no changes and they started the quarter goal for goal but Wirrulla still had the upper hand in the goal ring with better shooting percentage leading 32 to18.

Third quarter both teams made changes but Wirrulla’s goalies are having luck go their way. Western Districts defences are working really hard. Wirrulla lead 48 goals to29.

Western Districts tried hard until the final whistle but were out played by Wirrulla. Wirrulla’s height in the goal ring played a big advantage. Wirrulla won by 29 goals.

C grade:Wirrulla (51) defeatedWudinna United (37)

It was an evenly contested quarter. Wirrulla provided some beautiful feeding into the goalies who shot well too. Wudinna’s defence worked hard to keep the pressure on. Wirrulla lead at first break 14 to10.

Second quarter Wirrulla worked hard to capitalise this quarter making clear strong leads down the court. Wudinna’s goalies shot confidently this quarter when given the opportunity. Wirrulla held their lead to the end of the quarter. Wirrulla lead 24 goals to20

It was even play throughout the whole third quarter but Wirrulla took advantage of their shotes extending their lead. The centre court players for Wirrulla fed their goalies well. Wirrulla lead 41 to26.

Wudinna’s goalies shot better in the last quarter. Due to an injury the younger Wudinna players added height to their defence. Wirrulla continued to play well throughout the final quarter. Wirrulla won 51to37

D grade:Western Districts (44)defeated Wirrulla (36)

Junior A:Western Districts defeatedWirrulla

Western Districts got away to an early lead but turnovers from Wirrulla and excellent shooting saw them fight back to be even at quarter time. Eightgoals each

It was a very even second quarter with great shooting and pressure down the court from both teams. Goal for goal all quarter, teams 19 all at half time.

An injury to Districts in the thirdquarter saw changes but both teams kept fighting hard and trying their best. Even play again all quarter and Wirrulla had a small lead of onegoal at quarter time.

A very close and exciting last quarter sawit goal for goal with Districts just winning by twogoals.
